Private Practice Circle

A 4-month closed group for clinicians ready to launch into private practice.

Our next group launches Friday, August 30 2024!

You will gain all the tools, information, and resources you need to launch a private practice immediately. Together, we’ll explore how to shift your mindset from therapist to entrepreneur in order to build a sustainable, profitable, and values-aligned business.

You’ll walk away knowing…

  • How to get your finances ready to start a business.

  • What you need to do to brand and market your practice.

  • What policies and procedures you need to have in place before you take on your first client.

What is the Private Practice Circle?

A small, business consultation group of no more than 4 clinicians guided by Vanessa Newton who will provide you with a collaborative space to learn how to build and/or grow your practice while nourishing the person and the entrepreneur in you. The group will meet virtually every two weeks and is intended to be a supportive space for you to begin the work on your own while also allowing you to ask the tough questions, support the successes and struggles around being a business owner and encourage each other to thrive!

This is perfect for you if…

  • You are a passionate clinician and perhaps you’re starting to tire of feeling like you have to go at it alone.

  • You seek the guidance and support of someone who has successfully been through it.

  • You understand that things take time and there is a process for everything but if you are committed to doing the work, anything is possible.

  • You also long for a community of like-minded clinicians who are ready to start the journey alongside you!

Private Practice Circle includes:

  • 90-minute group sessions every other Friday, 9-10:30am CST

    (8 sessions total)

  • A copy of my Laying the Foundation for Your Private Practice workbook and a Brave & Well journal

  • Access to Voxer for ongoing support for the duration of our time together

    (4 months total)

  • Special discounts on Brave & Well products

  • Complete access to business resources and templates through your own Brave & Well portal throughout the duration of the group

  • Exclusive access to schedule 1-on-1 business consultations with Vanessa after PPC concludes to keep the momentum and support going

The Curriculum

01

Identify Your “Why”

Owning your own practice is hard—and it is so, so worth it. There will be tough moments and setbacks, and especially in those moments, it’s helpful to have a core purpose that helps to guide the way. If we are to decolonize the mental health industry, it starts here. We’ll dig into what drives you and how to use that as fuel for every other decision you make.

02

Define Your Values + Craft a Mission & Vision Statement

With your “Why” firmly rooted in your heart and mind, we’ll use that as inspiration to define the core values for your business. From there, we’ll create a mission and vision statement. These statements are powerful messages to the world about what you stand for. If your mission is the heart and soul of your business, your vision is the future you dream of.

03

Imagine Your Ideal Client

Building a purposeful business requires that you are intentional about who you serve, too. While it’s tempting to want to support everyone, the truth is that it’s not a helpful business strategy. In this lesson, you’ll get crystal clear about who your ideal client is so that you can create everything else with them in mind.

04

Unpack Your Money Story

Your money story is a culmination of your parents’, ancestors’, and even your own experiences. These stories have all been assigned meaning and are stored away in your subconscious and will come up often while running your business. Together, we’ll explore these stories and develop tools to help you shift into an abundance mindset when scarcity sneaks in.

05

Identify Your Streams of Revenue

Now that you’ve done all of this other foundational work, you are finally ready to think about what services, groups, workshops, and any other offerings you might want to offer. We’ll dig deep into the numbers to determine what rate you need to charge for each to match the amount of work you have the capacity for to reach your desired income.

06

Establish Your Brand Identity & Positioning

Once you have the “menu of services” set for your business, now we’re ready to shift into marketing and sharing with the world. In this lesson, we’ll define your brand identity and positioning within the larger therapy community so that it’s clear to others who you are and how exactly you are unique. We’ll define your differentiating factors and prepare your launch plan!

07

Set Boundaries Like a Boss & Radical Self-Care

When you’re your own boss, boundaries can get real blurry, real quick! Many times, we’re our own worst perpetrator. As you prepare to do this big thing of launching your business, identifying clear boundaries is one of the most effective ways to honor your needs amidst this expansion. We’ll also create your Radical Self-Care Plan to help stave off burnout.

08

Commit to Next Steps

In our final session, you’ll have the opportunity to ask Vanessa and the group any lingering questions that would support you in your launch. This is a chance to share challenges and receive feedback, as well as to celebrate your wins. After this week, you’ll be fully equipped to step into your private practice well-resourced and ready to go!

  • "It can feel so isolating starting out on your own and I was really missing community and support. There are so many things you're supposed to be absorbing and learning and it felt helpful to have a place to ask my questions and learn from other's experiences.”

    — Meg Mattingly, LPC, Owner & Therapist at Willow Tree Collective

  • “When I decided to leave my group, and start my own private practice I knew I would need community to support these changes. When I saw a posting for Vanessa's private practice circle, I knew this was an essential piece to my personal growth as a new independent professional.”

    — Jena Simon, LPC, Owner & Therapist at Simon Counseling

Frequently asked questions

  • In addition to the 8 group sessions, you’ll receive personalized, ongoing support via Voxer throughout our entire journey together. Before we begin, I’ll send you a copy of my Laying the Foundation for Your Private Practice workbook, along with a Brave & Well journal to help you stay inspired and organized. You’ll also gain access to our exclusive Private Practice Circle online portal, packed with business templates and resources you can use both during and after the program. Plus, you’ll enjoy special discounts on Brave & Well products and future consultations!

  • To reserve your spot, you’ll be charged a $50 deposit upfront. From there on out, you’ll be charged the per session fee of $100 after each meeting, regardless of whether you attend or not.

  • The Fall 2024 group will meet in person at the exclusive Soho House Austin. You’ll receive an invitation before each session to ensure seamless access to the space.

  • Yes! It’s a 4-month commitment, and we follow a defined curriculum shared above. I have found this to be the best approach to support clients to really allow them to work through the materials at a reasonable pace and prepare them to launch their private practice.

  • No, I would advise against it. During each session, I’ll be able to give more context about each lesson, so it’s best to do the homework in the workbook after we meet.

  • No, this workbook is just for you and is an integral part of the work we’ll do together in the Private Practice Circle. If you think it could be a good resource for a colleague, you may either gift it to them or share the link with them to purchase it on their own.

  • For virtual groups only, I have intentionally decided not to record our calls so that we can truly protect the container we create and everyone feels as though they can share freely. If you are unable to make a call, you will still receive the follow-up email with any resources and notes from that session, and you can also connect with me and the other group members in our Slack channel. There is no other way to make up that group unless you schedule an individual business consultation with me.

  • If you are in the contemplation stage, if you've already started your private practice and are needing help refining your business model, or maybe if you just need support on what to focus on next whether it be marketing, networking, billing, etc. The beginning stages of private practice can look different for everyone, but I would say that all of these stages would make you a great fit for the Private Practice Circle.
